Long before private jets, personal train cars were the preferred method of travel for business executives, politicians and celebrities. Not many of these luxurious rail cars still exist today, but Car #50 of the GM&O Railroad, now called The Patrón Tequila Express, is still riding the rails.
Built in 1927, this personal business railcar is 85 feet in length and meticulously restored to its original grandeur. The train car is fully equipped with a gourmet kitchen, dining room, three staterooms, and an observation room filled with rare textiles and exotic wood carvings. The car is pulled by Amtrak and can travel anywhere on Amtrak’s 21,000-mile route network.
During its long history, the rail car has transported the likes of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Huey P. Long, and Clark Gable. Today, the car is owned by John Paul DeJoria, founder of The Patrón Spirits Company (the company responsible for the popular line of Patrón tequilas). John Paul and his friend Dan Aykroyd (Patrón’s distribution partner in Canada) travel frequently on the train and often bring aboard friends and business associates to enjoy a glass of Patrón on the train’s outdoor deck, watching the countryside go by.
Simply Perfect in every way, Patrón tequila is an ultra-premium luxury white spirit that’s delicious on the rocks, and mixes flawlessly into most any cocktail. From the highest-quality Weber Blue agave plants grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, to the centuries-old distillation process, to the handcrafted glass bottles, Patrón is produced with unparalleled attention to detail.
